Formed in 1995, Pixelogic Ltd is a games development company owned
and run by Chris Butler,
an industry
professional who has been programming top
computer and video games since 1983.
Over the years Pixelogic Ltd
has developed a wealth of technology and experience in games developement.
Notable examples include:
- Mission Builder. A robust and
flexible mission scripting system developed over 4 years which gives game
designers complete control over game objects (vehicles, characters, cameras,
etc) and how they behave and interact with each other, enabling complete levels
to be created without the aid of a programmer. This system was used in Crime
Killer, War of the Worlds, & The Italian Job.
- Driving Technology.
We have developed specialist code to simulate the complex
interactions of vehicle dynamics on different surfaces
and gradients yet with a user friendly interface to enable a
designer to easily modify a car's handling characteristics.
Perform handbrake turns and lurid powerslides, complete
with skidmarks, suspension, tyresmoke, brakelights, etc.
- Physics engine. Extensive physics code was developed for
The
Italian Job, incorporating rigid body dynamics, accurate
collision detection & response, etc.
- 3D engines.
Low level polygon technology was used in
The Italian Job, War of the Worlds, & Crime Killer on PSOne, which ran
at 60 fps. Includes character animation, dynamic lighting,
joints hierarchy, and particle systems.
- Automatic CD spooling.
This ingenius
mechanism enables huge city model to be stored on CD and loads
scenery data on the fly as a background process when the player moves anywhere
around the city. It enables huge non-tiling polygon environments to be experienced
on consoles with a limited amount of
memory. Put to great effect in The Italian Job.
With such an extensive reputation
and technology base we were the obvious choice for publishers such
as SCi, GT / Infogrames & Interplay when they were looking
for a talented and reliable developer. We successfully completed projects
for them on time and on budget and to a very high standard
as the reviews have testified. As a proven safe pair of hands
we were entrusted with the development of valuable licenced
properties such the The Italian Job and The War of the Worlds.
In August 2001, Chris took a break from running a company
and licenced the Pixelogic name and technology to one of the
company's employees, who set up Pixelogic Games Ltd and ported
The Italian Job to PC. All enhancements made to the Pixelogic technology
under this licence, such as ports to other platforms, remain the
property of Pixelogic Ltd. In December 2002, this licence was terminated,
and Chris returned to the helm to run Pixelogic Ltd and retains
the sole rights to Pixelogic's intellectual property. No other company
or individual has the right to use the Pixelogic technology,
code base, name or reputation.
